Terms of Service

This is a first draft, not legal advice. It reflects how BookWorld currently works. Have a lawyer review it, and set the governing jurisdiction below, before you rely on it.

These terms cover your use of BookWorld: Novels and Stories, operated by Hygr. By creating an account you agree to them.

Accounts

You need an account to read chapters and to save your progress. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. One person, one account. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms.

Reader, author and admin accounts are separate, with separate sign-in pages and separate permissions.

Coins, library passes and premium

Coins and library passes are virtual items, not currency. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred between accounts.

• A coin pack credits your balance as soon as the purchase completes.
• Unlocking a chapter is permanent: once unlocked, it stays unlocked for as long as the chapter remains on the platform.
• A library pass unlocks one chapter, whatever that chapter costs in coins.
• Premium unlocks every chapter for as long as the subscription is active. Cancelling stops future billing; it does not refund the current period.
• Chapters unlock in order — a chapter can only be unlocked once the ones before it are available to you.

Purchases are final. Because virtual items are delivered immediately, we do not generally refund them, except where the law requires it or where something went wrong on our side.

We may change what a chapter costs, what a pack contains, or what a reward grants. Anything you have already unlocked or already been granted is not affected.

Rewards

Daily login streaks, reading-time rewards and milestones are offered at our discretion and may change or end. Manipulating them — scripting, faking reading time, running multiple accounts — will cost you the rewards and may cost you the account.

Rewarded ads

Some chapters can be unlocked by watching an advertisement instead of paying. Watching it in full is what earns the unlock.

If you write on BookWorld

You keep the copyright in what you write. Nothing here transfers ownership of your work.

By publishing on BookWorld you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, format and promote your work on the platform for as long as you choose to keep it here. Remove your work and that licence ends, except for copies we must keep in backups for a limited period.

You confirm that the work is yours, that you have the right to publish it, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

Every new novel and chapter — and every edit to something already published — goes to our editors before readers can see it. We may reject or remove work that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why.

Earnings from unlocks are calculated on the terms shown in your author dashboard.

What you may not post

Content that is illegal; that infringes copyright; that sexualises minors; that harasses, threatens or defames; that is spam; or that impersonates someone else. We remove it and may suspend the account.

Comments and reviews

Keep them about the work. We may remove comments and ratings, and an administrator may reply to you privately about one.

Availability

We do our best to keep BookWorld running but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. If we shut the service down we will give reasonable notice.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data or profit, arising from your use of BookWorld. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Changes to these terms

We will post changes here and update the date below. Continuing to use BookWorld after a change means you accept it.
